Today I have been here in Kyoto for exactly one month and I believe that this is a good time to take a look back, but also to look into the future.
In this one month, I have already experienced a lot, but the largest change so far is probably to live alone. In the beginning, it was very strange to come to my apartment and to be alone. But over time, I got used to it, and after all, I do not have much of a problem with taking care of myself. Only when it comes to cooking, I need a bit more practice. 🙈
Since I grew up in Rostock, right at the Baltic Sea and the Warnow, I'm used to being at the water. For that reason, it is not surprising that I chose the Kamo River as my favorite place here in Kyoto. During the day it is a great place to just take a break during work and relax a bit (and jump over stones 😙). But even in the evening you can settle down here and listen to various street musicians.
This is definitely one thing that I enjoy here. Unfortunately, I still miss contacts, with whom I can experience this together and with whom I can do something on my days off. So far I have not had much success with my search, but I hope that will change soon.
But of course, I'm not lonely here. I have nice colleagues at the gallery who take care of me and do their best to make me feel good and they succeed. Especially since Tomoko, a co-worker, brings homemade bento boxes for lunch, which are super delicious and cute.
In the next two weeks, I will get more company here in Kyoto. Every year, German artists travel to Kyoto via the Art Rainbow project, and Japanese artists visit Rostock, with the countries alternately taking on the role of the host. German artists are now coming to Japan and there is a lot that had to be organized.
In two days the artists will arrive in Kyoto and will be artistically active here. At the end of their two-week stay, an exhibition will be held to display the works of art that they created here.
It's going to be exciting and I plan to give you guys some impressions from this project, so stay tuned. 😉
